Portsmouth is bitterly cold today with freezing temperatures. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for continuing snow and ice. Although the snow is exciting for many, it also causes difficulties so here is some information which might be useful over the next few days.
Wellbeing of others
Keep an eye on family, friends and neighbours, especially those who are elderly or vulnerable. Here’s some good advice from Hampshire Fire & Rescue
Colas are out gritting roads and will make sure that all primary routes and the M275 are done prior to rush hour. Gritting will then continue through the night. Drivers are urged to take the snow and ice into account and drive safely. For more information visit https://www.portsmouth.gov.uk/ext/documents-external/trv-snow-leaflet-1116.pdf
There have been some school closures so far. You can find information about any further closures here http://www.portsmouth.gov.uk/ext/news/school-closure-information
During the winter months, emergency beds are available for rough sleepers. If you see someone sleeping rough, and don’t know how to help, you can use the StreetLink service (0300 500 0914) who will notify the local council to get them connected to the local services and support available to them. There is also an app available to download.
In an emergency
Call 999 in an emergency – when someone is at risk of being injured, a crime is in progress, or if you have urgent concerns about someone’s health. Alternatively to report non-urgent crimes call 101.
Stay safe and warm Portsmouth!
